A legacy of slavery, Jim Crow, and the white paradigm is that white people and families have greater wealth than non-whites. The footnote in Chapter 5 on page 74 describes the extent of the gap in wealth between whites and non-whites. That note also presents the evidence that under the white paradigm the gap is increasing and will continue to increase.

The authors of a 2017 report, The Road to Zero Wealth, How the Racial Wealth Divide is Hollowing Out American's Middle Class, prepared by the Institute for Policy Studies and Prosperity Now present specific proposals that address the wealth gap.  These proposals  are examples of how working together we can modify and adopt policies that result in restitution.
